9 ways Apple’s Siri now speaks English (and how to switch them)
Apple has released iOS 13.3.1, introducing a raft of very important security patches, and adding a new Indian English Siri voice for HomePod, just in time for that fantastic device to be made available in India.
Siri now speaks 9 forms of English
Since the release of iOS 13, Siri now speaks English in several different regional accents:
- Australian
- Canadian
- Indian
- Irish
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- South Africa
- UK
- U.S.
The latest software update extends the Indian English support to HomePod, which speaks English in a more limited set of accents:
- Australian
- Indian (new)
- Irish
- South Africa
- UK
- U.S.
More languages than most
With Siri still speaking more languages than any other smart assistant, English isn’t the only language Apple’s Siri team have spent time localizing.
Siri utters four forms of French (including Canadian and Swiss French), three different forms of German (Austria, Germany, Switzerland); Italian twice (Italian and Swiss), four Spanish tongues – but only one form of Portuguese (Brazilian – come on Apple, Portugal is the best country in the world.)

How to change how Siri speaks
It’s easy to change the voice Siri uses:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Siri & Search
- Tap Siri Voice
- Choose the voice and gender (male, female voice).
- You may need to train Siri again.
I have noticed a new warning that HomePod features may be limited when you change language. Y
ou can however change the language in the Home app, tap the device and then change the Voice in Settings, accessed via the gears icon.
