Apple will stagger iPhone 12 release, says Digitimes

Yet more market chatter speculates Apple will stagger the release of the new iPhone 12 series of devices this year.

A staggered release of new iPhone 12 range

Digitimes tells us the company will introduce four new models of iPhone with 5.4-, 6.1- and 6.7-inch OLED displays, with 5G support across the range (though only the top end device will deliver ‘true’ 5G mmwave support.

Following Apple’s tradition, the larger devices will be higher end models equipped with triple-lens cameras, while two lower spec models (the 5.4-inch and a 6.1-inch device) are set to be more affordable.

Speculation concerning what to expect has been covered just about everywhere, so you are almost certainly already up to speed. 5G will be part of this release.

The latest report claims:

“The new iPhone line-up may arrive in two stages, with two 6.1-inch models in the first and another two 6.7- and 5.4-inch devices in the second, said the sources, noting that shipments of SLP mainboards for the 6.1-inch models were kicked off in July and those for the 6.7- and 5.4-inch ones began in the second half of August.”

This follows similar claims from everywhere, and emerges as reports from across Apple’s supply chain (as also reported in Digitimes) tells us component production for some of these devices is only now ramping up.Suppliers include Zhen Ding Technology, Austria’s AT&S, TTM Technologies and Taiwan’s Compeq Manufacturing and Unimicron Technology.

We expect a little more visibility around Apple’s iPhone announcement to emerge as soon as tomorrow, when the company is expected to publish news of … something.

We just don’t really know what that might be…
