Ding-dong, Apple plans a November event at which it intends introducing the first Apple Silicon Macs, the Friday evening post-watershed Apple rumor mill proclaims.

I’m guessing most Apple watchers won’t be too surprised the company thinks the next-generation of the product the entire enterprise has built its fortune on is a big enough deal to merit its own special event.

And I’m sure it makes sense for the company to make time to get deeply to grips with its new machines – and it’s certainly not the first time the company has introduced new Macs at that time of year, as I recall.

Now, Bloomberg’s Leaker-In-Chief doesn’t tell us much about the Macs that will one day be among us, but previous editions of the Eternal Apple Rumor Machine have claimed a MacBook Air type thing and a 13—inch ‘Pro.

What we’ll get

We’ve also heard (from various places):

• 8-core, 12-core and 16-core Mac chips are on the map (the latter for desktops).
• May deliver up to 15-20-hour battery life.
• Excellent performance per watt.
• From $799.

The company has said it intends finishing the transition in the next couple of years, and plans to continue selling Intel Macs in the meantime.

What can we expect at the event? To me, it seems credible to imagine that as well as introducing the new machines, Apple will want to show us what they are capable of and demonstrate that some of the key applications we use daily already work on the platform.

In addition to which, given the importance of Apple in the enterprise, it seems a solid notion the company will want to address that market too. Expect performance stats, strategically important developer news, and (of course) a few surprises.
