Microsoft Teams has been optimized for Apple Silicon Macs
Rejoice, Teams players, as Microsoft Teams is now optimized for Apple Silicon Macs and the new client has been made available for download. Along with being native to M1/M2 chips, the new version also brings decent performance improvements.
Teams is now a Mac native
“We heard from our customers who use Mac with Apple silicon that they want Teams to be optimized for their devices,” the company said.
“We are rolling out a production grade universal binary version of Teams, which means it will run natively on the entire Mac lineup, including those with Apple silicon. For Mac users, this means a significant boost in performance, ensuring efficient use of device resources and an optimized Teams experience even when using multiple high-resolution monitors during calls or meetings.”
Worldwide, Microsoft Teams claims to have over 270 million monthly active users, mostly among business users. The company continues to try to make its communication app more consumer friendly, but in truth Zoom has stolen that crown. I’ve dug around, but I’ve been unable to find accurate data to reflect how many Teams users are on iOS/iPad OS and macOS, but I’d be interested to find out, as this would provide a useful insight into Apple’s growing share of the enterprise computing markets.
It may reflect that use that Microsoft in 2021 introduced Teams integration to CarPlay, letting you can speak during a meeting while driving your car
All Mac users will be automatically upgraded with their most recent update to Teams. The generally available (GA) version of the native Teams app on Mac with Apple silicon is being rolled out to customers in increments over the coming months. Microsoft Office has been Apple Silicon native since November 2020.
We know Microsoft has been working on bringing Teams across, while it hasn’t yet been able to abandon the power-hungry Electron framework it uses, it has improved performance.
