Season’s bargains: Huge discounts on Macs, displays and accessories
Amazon’s new deal with Apple appears to have unlocked a raft of great deals for Apple, Mac and iOS users, including steeply discounted Macs and a large collection of other bargains.
(Don’t forget, Amazon Prime members may get cheaper deals and delivery too, so you might want to use this 30-Day Free Trial). Here are some of the highlights I’ve managed to find so far:
Up to $300 off the cost of new Macs
You’ll find hundreds of dollars cut from the price of numerous Macs, including a steep $300 discount on the cost of the current edition 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and a $100 price cut on the all-new Rose Gold MacBook Air (256GB).
Looking for an iMac? Take a look at the $200 discount on the 27-inch Retina 5K model.
It’s worth shopping around for the model you are looking for as there may be a deal available. It also seems to be a pretty good time to purchase things like Apple keyboards, mice and dongles as all of these products seem to be available at a lower price — $87 for a Magic Keyboard, or a Magic Mouse for $73.55.
A USB-C LG external display for your Mac
Apple’s new notebooks ship with a USB-C connection that can send data to and receive power from an external display. LG was one of the launch partners when this feature was introduced along with the original MacBook Pro. And Amazon is offering a temptingly huge $300 discount on the LG 4K UHD 27UD88-W 27″ LED-Lit Monitor with USB Type-C, which will cost you just $496 instead of the listed $796 right now – a 4K monitor for your Mac.

Logitech MX Master 2S
Cult of Mac calls it “the best wireless mouse money can buy”, so it’s good that you can get hold of Logitech’s MX Master 2S wireless mouse at a $29.99 discount: $70, not $99.99. The controller works on almost any surface, including glass, and also supports up to three Macs at once. Accurate, comfortable and configurable this is the mouse to get if you’re sick of the ones supplied by Apple, or just need to change your habits to stave off strain pain.
Make your child smart again
Amazon has cut a third off the cost of the Osmo STEM Genius kit for iPad. This is a kit consisting of a bunch of different tools that connect with apps on your iPad to help your children learn how to solve problems using visual tools and puzzles. Five games are included in the kit. $69.99.
For connected homes
There’s an interesting 34 percent discount on the iRobot Roomba 690 robot vacuum cleaner, which will cost $249 rather than the $374 list price.
The Withings/Nokia body cardio scales (mentioned here) will set you back just $99 (down $50).
You’ll save around a third ($9) on Sylvania HomeKit-compatible LED bulbs (just $16.99), or $60 on a Lutron Caseta wireless smart lighting kit, consisting of two HomeKit-compatible dimmer switchers ($159.90).
Make almost any device in your home smart using Wemo Wi-fi enabled smart plugs (down 25% at $26.29). Possibly the biggest name in HomeKit accessories, Eve, is also in on the act with a small discount on the Eve Weather Station temperature, humidity and air pressure monitor ($54.95 rather than $69.95).
Finally, you can get $50 discount on an ecobee Smart Thermostat, bringing the price of that product down to $199.
iOS accessories
There are lots of iPhone accessories getting some discounts this shopping season. One of the best for owners of iPhone X, XS, XS Max or XR iPhones may be the big price cut on YooTech’s Qi wireless charger pad. Yes, you do need to get your own AC adaptor (try Amazon Basics) but at just $13.99 it’s a good entry-level product for wireless charging of your devices. If you want a trusted brand, then you may want to invest in a mophie Qi charger for iPhones, which is twenty bucks down on normal price at $39.50.
I also like the discounted (to $25.49 from $31.99) Anker PowerCore 10000 external battery. This tiny little battery will provide you with three and a half iPhone charges.
I think cables are the accessory everyone needs and no one wants to get, so the two for $9.99 deal on military-grade red USB to USB-C cables looks like a winner for anyone with a new iPad Pro. iPhone users may want to think about a 5-pack of Besiva USB>Lightning cables, which includes 2-3ft, 2x6ft and one 10-foot cable for just $14.99, a $10 discount on normal cost.
Elsewhere, you’ll find discounts on a range of iPhone cases, including on those deeply protective cases manufactured by the legendary Otterbox. Finally, you can pick up one of the most highly-rated external storage solutions for iPhones, the SanDisk iXpand 128GB flash drive for under half price at just $53.99.
Amazon Basics on sale
Amazon is offering discounts across its Amazon Basics range. Apple-related highlights include $5 off the cost of a 2-metre retractable Lightning cable; $3 off the cost of a MicroUSB to Lightning adaptor, and small discounts on other handy accessories, including iPhone X cases.
If you’re looking around for cheap storage, however, you may want to take a look at the SanDisk Ultra Flair USB 3.0 flash drive, which will cost you just $39.99 for an impressive 256GB of storage capacity.
