ACSI data says Samsung is catching up with Apple?
Apple’s Macs continue to deliver America’s favorite consumer experience among PC users, but it seems Samsung may have caught up a little, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index and its latest Household Appliances and Electronics scores.
Samsung climbs the heights
ACSI data shows that Apple continues to lead across much of the PC user experience but gets caught in a tie with Samsung for the top ACSI score (83). That’s a 2% improvement for Samsung with a 1% bump for Apple. This may not translate into sales, however.
“This is the first time since 2003 that Apple hasn’t been in sole possession of first place,” ACSI said.
“Samsung’s strong overall performance is boosted by surging customer satisfaction with its tablet offerings (Galaxy Tab). While tablet satisfaction at the aggregate level falls this year, Samsung improves 6% to a score of 85.”
Third place Dell also saw some improvement in consumer sentiment, it climbed 3 percentage points to reach a score of 81.
Desktops versus notebooks
There is also an emerging trend in which satisfaction is highest among users of desktop computers (84), followed by notebooks (80) and tablets (76).
Notably, satisfaction with tablets has shrunk from 79 to 76 points, while others have improved.
It is always interesting to see what matters most to PC users.
What matters most to people?
Over the last year, consumer attitudes have widened to celebrate design, software/app availability and graphics above all other considerations, with ease of use, processor speed, and accessory availability also seen as important.
It is also interesting the extent to which desires change according to the type of PC it is, (notebook, desktop, tablet), as this chart shows.
Zooming out, the overall PC industry is among the top ten industries that consumers are most satisfied with this year.
