AirFly Pro: Essential kit for AirPod users
You can always expect something interesting from the product designers at twelvesouth, and AirFly Pro is just the latest in a long series of cool toys from the Apple-focused South Carolina-based firm.
What is AirFly Pro?
For a connected world we sure need to use a lot of dongles, and AirFly Pro ($54.99) is indeed another dongle, but it does something useful: It’s a tiny transmitter that lets you use your wireless headphones or earbuds (including AirPods and AirPod Pro) with systems that only have a headphone outlet.
How does AirFly Pro work?
The twelvesouth product plugs into the headphone outlet on airline entertainment systems, at the gym or anywhere else where you need to listen to audio. It’s a battery powered device that promises around 16-hours battery life.

What else can it do?
The system has a couple of other terrific features:
- It lets you connect two pairs of wirelss headphones, so you can work out with your friend at the gym or watch the same movie without annoying anyone else in the coffee shop or on the flight.
- The system also acts as an AUX IN adapter for your car, boat or non-Bluetooth speaker, so you can easily send audio from your iPhone into another system.
I need a USB-C version of this product
Don’t worry – twelvesouth also offers AirFly USB-C and AirFly Duo versions of the product, as well as the original AirFly – there’s details here.
I recently took a long flight and was disappointed not to be able to use my AirPods to access the entertainment system. This product would have bridged that gap.
