Almost half of Android users are willing to switch – survey
Apple’s recent decision to publish an ad focused on Android switchers was well timed, given a recent survey from Beyond Identity found that 49% of current Android users are ready to switch “due to the perceived superiority in security and privacy.”
It turns out privacy and security matter after all
The survey asked 1,000 US smartphone users (around 500 for each platform) about their plans to switch platform. It found that Apple’s continued investment in privacy and security is beginning to chime with Android users, though platform loyalty remains fairly high:
- 76% of iPhone users are comfortable with their devices.
- 74% of Android users feel the same way.
Despite which, 33% of Android users are willing to switch to Apple on strength of the enhanced security in iOS 16, including its built-in protection against advanced spyware, Lockdown Mode.
Overall, however, the survey found 49% of Android users are willing to switch to iPhone due to concerns around security and privacy.
Data loss is another concern
The survey claims 75% of Apple users and 55% of Android users were able to fully recover their lost data.
“The iPhone reigned supreme in terms of security according to users. People with iPhones reported fewer breaches and more instances of retrieving their stolen or lost information,” the researchers said.
Another takeaway was enhanced security care.
The study revealed that Apple users are more proactive around device security than Android users. For example, they are more likely to choose a six-digit pin over a four-digit one to unlock their phone. Apple users are also more careful with their information. They used longer passwords and disabled their location services more often than Android users.

Apple’s message to switchers
In its latest video, Apple explains the steps Android users need to take to switch to iPhone, including migrating WhatsApp messages from inside its Switch to iOS app. The 4-minute video is filmed in Apple Store, Barcelona, Spain. It covers the following questions:
- If I switch to iPhone
- Will it be easy to transfer my contacts, photos, and messages?
- Can I trade in my Android smartphone?
- Will it hold up over time?
- Will it be reliable?
- Will it get the latest updates?
- How will my personal info be protected?
- Will I get support from Apple?
Incredibly, the answers to all these queries is yes.
