Apple announces Apple Music Classical, launches March 28
We waited some time for it to show and Apple has at last announced Apple Music Classical, an app dedicated to classical music streaming.
Heard melodies are sweet
In the announcement the company says the service will launch March 28 with over five million tracks, including new releases and exclusive albums.
“Apple Music Classical listeners will also enjoy brand new exclusive artwork including a series of unique, high-resolution digital portraits for many of the world’s greatest composers- with more to come. Specially commissioned from a diverse group of artists, each image blends historical research with color palettes and artistic references from the relevant classical period. The results display an astonishing attention to detail, bringing listeners face to face with leading classical figures like never before.”
Music is the poetry of the air
The company acquired classical music service Primephonic in 2021 and features acquired with that service, including detailed metadata and advanced search will be part of the app. It will be available at no additional cost to Apple Music subscribers.

“Get the app designed specifically for classical music,” Apple said.
The service makes it easy for beginners to get acquainted with the genre thanks to hundreds of Essentials playlists, insightful composer biographies, deep-dive guides for many key works, and intuitive browsing features.
Features include:
- Powerful search that lets you instantly find any recording in the world’s largest classical music catalog.
- Search by composer, work, conductor, or even catalog number, and find specific recordings instantly.
- Highest audio quality available (up to 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless).
- Spatial audio support.
- Available worldwide where Apple Music is offered, though not in China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
- Apple Music Classical is available for all iPhone models running iOS 15.4 or later.
It isn’t known if the service will be made available as a standalone service for a fee, or if Apple hopes the service will tempt classical music fans to sign up for Apple Music. An Android version will be “coming soon” the company said.
