Apple Classical may launch with iOS 15.5, probably in May
Apple acquired Primephonic in August 2021, now code strings contained in the iOS 15.5 beta suggests the company may introduce its dedicated classical music service when the OS update ships, probably in May.
Classics coming soon
The latest in Apple’s fast-growing services empire, Apple Classical promises a purpose-built classical music streaming experience for its users. Now it seems the company is building code to support the app, including system prompts to remind you to open appropriate tracks in Apple Classical. The company is likely to introduce the upgraded iOS in May, a few weeks before it introduces us to iOS 16 at WWDC in June.
Primephonic mixed handpicked recommendations from human experts with contextual details on the music you were listening to. Following the deal, Apple’s been working on a dedicated classical music experience that should bring all the key features of the Primephonic app including its classic user interface.
What improvements to expect should include: Better music playlists, exclusive audio content, better browsing, the capacity to search by composer and by repertoire, detailed displays of classical music metadata, and additional new features and benefits.
You’ll also get that Apple Lossless audio experience classical music fans might like.
“Apple Music plans to launch a dedicated classical music app next year combining Primephonic’s classical user interface that fans have grown to love with more added features.”
