Apple confirms many iPad and iPhone apps to run on VisionPro
Apple has confirmed that most iPhone and iPad apps will be offered for sale via the App Store on Vision Pro, and will let developers know if they must make changes in their apps to do so.
Opening the company store
Apple has begun to tease how it intends running an App Store on Vision Pro, telling developers that visionOS will include the App Store built-in.
It says this is to give developers the chance to test their apps.
The store won’t just offer visionOS apps, it will also offer up “hundreds of thousands” of iPad and iPhone apps that will also run on these things. You’ll even be able to run apps side-by-side within the immersive spatial environment. That’s good for developers as it means most apps will be available for all users.
So, what’s happening?
- Apple will this fall weave the App Store into visionOS. When it does the following things will happen:
- By default, iPad and iPhone apps will be automatically published on the store on Vision Pro.
- Customers will be able to use the apps on visionOS “early next year” when the VisionPro ships.
- Apple Connect will let developers know if their apps aren’t compatible with visionOS.
Developers can also make their apps unavailable if they don’t choose to offer them on the platform. They can test their apps in the visionOS simulator in Xcode 15 beta.
Apple also wants developers to build apps with the visionOS SDK, which supports additional elements for even better apps for the immersive environment.
