Apple Developer app gets spring update for WWDC
In conjunction with the announcement that WWDC 2021 will be an online event, Apple has also updated its Apple Developer application for Mac, iPhone and iPad with support for larger displays and other features.
The Apple Developer app acts is a source of stories, news, and educational information, including technical and community information, for developers. It also provides session videos from previous Apple developer events.
‘The heart of the show’
Apple’s own app update notes state:
“We’ve made improvements to the look and feel of the Developer app across iPhone, iPad, and Mac to help you enjoy articles, videos, news and announcements, and past WWDC content. You can browse content more easily on iPad with a new sidebar (iPadOS 14 or later), enjoy fullscreen video content on larger Mac displays, and discover content to watch and read using the new Search area.”
Apple also points out that the app is the “heart of this year’s exciting all-online WWDC experience”, and promises “new ways for developers to interact with Apple engineers and designers.”
What else is new?
Used on a larger display the app is a treat, it’s so much clearer to find what you seek and video assets have become much better presented. Apple has also updated the search tool in the app, making its results a lot more accurate.
On iPads the company has added a new content sidebar, while all devices gain a new Discover tab and better search support.
It will be interesting to see what gets added as the app is updated in the coming weeks.
