Apple hammers UK with 25% hike in iCloud storage costs
It looks like Greedflation in the UK has claimed another scalp as greedy energy firms increase costs, so too must cloud based service providers as they also face higher bills. Now Apple has increased UK iCloud prices by a whopping 25%.
Churning up the bills
That’s not a huge surprise. Vastly inflated energy prices and what seems to be lazy local regulation in the UK means energy costs have soared across the last 12 months. iCloud costs in the US remains the same.
What is the new UK price?
In the UK, costs have increased.
- 5GB: Remains Apple’s paltry free storage amount.
- 50GB: £0.79/month becomes £0.99/month.
- 200GB: £2:49/month becomes £2.99/month.
- 2TB: £6.99/month increases to £8.99.
What about other places?
Similar price increases have been introduced in other nations, including Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
Will Apple increase the cost of its other services? It hasn’t yet, and arguably some (including Apple One) may not that easily sustain any increase. Apple did of course increase the cost of Apple services including Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple one globally last fall.
Speaking at an event in Barcelona last year, Steve Brazier, CEO at Canalys, said:
“We expect public cloud prices in Europe to increase at least 30 percent in 2023, causing an almighty shock to many of their customers who are also trying to get their costs down and leading to a lot of tension and a lot of aggravation between you and them and providers.”
With that in mind it may now be time to check those cloud services bills, as others may also be about to increase.
