Apple iOS & watchOS 9 updates ship Sept 12, Mac, iPad later
Apple will release iOS 16 and watchOS 9 on September 12, just before its newly announced products reach our hands and a few weeks before its Mac and iPad updates ship.
New operating systems loom
The company has been developing the next iterations of its operating systems for months, revealing its work at WWDC in June as it engaged in mass beta testing. All the systems are significant releases, iOS 16, for example, includes customizable Lock Screen, message editing, privacy features including Lockdown Mode and more.
Apple had we think intended to introduce iPadOS 16 along with iOS, but recently changed its direction as it continues along its path to make Macs and iPad into more complementary systems. This particularly extends to challenges with some of the new features between both platforms, principally around Stage Manager.
The company has teased out multiple new features within its upcoming operating systems we weren’t aware of before.

watchOS 9, for example will gain a new Low Power Mode on Apple Watch Series 4 or later. When this is enabled you can get 36t hours battery life from one single charge. While this temporarily disables some features, others, including activity tracking and Apple Pay, remain available.
Apple also extended its AppleCare+ insurance system so it will offer unlimited repairs for accidental damage to protected devices. Unlimited repairs will be made available to Mac, iPad and Appel Watch and will be provided to every AppleCare+ plan.
