Apple iPhone marketing chief talks iPhoneography in India
You can tell when you have something the company is looking for when it talks to you — with that in mind it speaks volumes that Apple’s VP Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, Kaiann Drance, took time to speak with India’s Hindustan Times.
You don’t need to use a zoom lens to know this means the company is super-serious about building its business in India. Not only is it making more iPhones there, but it also wants to sell more there too. In her extensive interview, Drance extolled the virtues of the iPhone’s advanced camera system.
She was attending the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images which showcased four beautiful movies all shot on iPhones.
The camera you have with you
“Since iPhone was first introduced, it has become one of our most personal devices and is the world’s most popular camera. Not only has it enabled photographers, filmmakers, and creators to do what they do best, but made filmmaking and content creation more accessible.
“Watching how this accessibility has translated into an expansive breadth and range of iPhone films throughout the years has been incredible, and the films debuted here at MAMI are inspiring examples of what’s possible on iPhone,” Drance said.
Drance also spoke extensively about the technology inside iPhones that make it possible to shoot movies on the device. It’s something the company has put a lot of energy into over the years, since before the device became the world’s most widely used digital camera. iPhoneography is a big priority for the company, which is why it hosts its own annual photography award, and why it continues to invest in new tech and tools to improve its camera’s each year.
Those improvements happen in the context of Apple’s ‘whole widget’ approach – which means the operating system, processors, and things like the 48MP Fusion camera system all contribute to better experiences, and better photographs.
Apple is developing in India
If photography on an iPhone interests you then do take a look at the piece on Hindustan Times, but before you go, take a look at the bigger picture: Apple is on track to make 25% of all its iPhones in India within the next 12-months, the company is also benefiting from the improving economy there with new high street retail stalls planned for India.
That makes India a highly strategically serious market for the company. That Drance offered an interview on the record at all to an India publication absolutely proves how important India has become for Apple. You could say it’s the whole widget.
