Apple meets the Royals, and confirms company researching GAI
Apple CEO Tim Cook continues his European tour this week with a visit to the Prince and Princess of Wales at Windsor Castle. It follows the company’s disclosure that it supports over half a million jobs in the UK. During the UK visit, Cook confirmed Apple researching Generative AI and promised to recruit more employees in the UK.
Meet the family
Cook bought along a couple of Apple bags containing small presents for the couple. It’s not hard to speculate these may have been iPhones, given the recent introduction of iPhone 15. While at the castle, Cook and the royals discussed: “The environment, mental health, and other issues”.
(It is worth noting that Prince William recorded an episode of Apple’s Time to Walk Fitness+ series in 2021.)
“It was a true honor to meet with the Prince and Princess of Wales. We had a wonderful and wide-ranging discussion about the environment, mental health, and other issues that mean a great deal to all of us,” Cook wrote on social media.
Cook takes a European tour
Cook has been all over Europe in recent days. While in the UK he visited the developers of the GymStreak personal trainer and Night Sky apps and a school in London’s Battersea which Apple supports.
He also visited staff at the company’s HQ and store in Battersea.
Beyond the UK, Cook’s tour took in a fantastic solar farm investment in Denmark, and visited developers, musicians, and workers all across Northwestern Europe. He has been seen in Brussels, Copenhagen, the Netherlands (including dropping in on Apple’s partners at NXP).
Just four days ago, Cook waved goodbye to Madrid, Spain, where he attended the Real Madrid versus Atletico De Madrid match and met Spain’s most decorated Paralympian, Teresa Perales. And squeezed in time to drop in on Apple retail stores there.
He also met with European regulators in Brussels on this trip.
One week since iPhone 15
Indeed, Cook’s schedule seems so frenetic that it may be hard for him to remember that just one week ago he was opening the doors at Apple Fifth Avenue. All in all, it seems a busy week, even for a man who famously rises before the dawn so he can stay fit and check his emails.
