Apple Music plans classic Android widget improvements
Apple Music is already available on Android and the latest beta for the OS introduces some good improvements and may have revealed that Apple will call its Primephonic-based classical music service something as original as “Apple Classical”.
Apple gets Android widgets
A report from 9-5Google tells us that the Android widgets offered by Apple Music will be improved, becoming wider and taller and with widget background color reflecting that of the current song’s album artwork.
The intrepid Android beta sleuths also note the introduction of the name “Apple Classical”, which will apparently open classical music tracks in the Classical app.
Wht’s interesting about the Classical app is how heavily it leans on the tech developed by Primephonic.
The latter firm had got to grips with the need to provide different sets of metadata for classical tracks, with versions being very different, and classical music fans wanting to search for composers, repertoires, by opus and more.
‘An outstanding listening experience’
At the time of the acquisition of Primephonic, Apple said it provided, “An outstanding listening experience with search and browse functionality optimized for classical, premium-quality audio, handpicked expert recommendations, and extensive contextual details on repertoire and recordings.”

The company is alos thought to be leveraging Apple Lossless for a fantastic classical music listening experience, and may have other plans to enhance Apple Music in its next big reveal this spring. Apple recently acquired AI Music for smart, personalized music and recommendation tools based on artificial intelligence and now offers the Apple Music Voice plan for Siri-only music access.
In the background, close links between the music industry music streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music are to be investigated by the UK competition regulator.
