Apple Music’s MTV replacement channel hits UK & Canada
It wasn’t so long ago when Apple launched its own all-day music video channel via Apple Music and Apple TV, but it was only available in the U.S. Now it’s being slowly switched on in the UK and Canada.
Something for the weekend?
If you’ve hankered for a sit-down indulgence in endless music video streaming this weekend, Apple now has you covered with its ‘classic MTV-like’ Apple Music TV channel.
It’s an endless music video channel offering up music videos, performances, interviews and more, and while you can’t fast forward to the good bits, like MTV once was, this is a conduit of music-based content you can sit back and relax too. Introduction of the service into the UK and Canada is likely the first step toward international expansion.
To mark the launch, Apple is focusing on UK acts, including the rather fabulous and politically faultless, Stormzy.
What is Apple Music TV?
When Apple introduced the service in October 2020, Apple Music TV chief, Rachel Newman spoke with Variety to tell us that Apple Music is primarily a hits channel focused on contemporary music.
She also told us that, like live TV and MTV when it was good, coverage would consist of music videos interspersed with other content, including exclusive interviews and other content. All of which, by the way, is ad-free, free of content trackers, and includes unique programming, which is nice.
Apple Music TV will also host new music video premieres every Friday, and it also means all the video content Apple Music has ever created, including interviews, concerts and movies, will now have a home on the new channel.
How to watch Apple Music TV
You’ll find Apple Music TV through both the TV app and Apple’s Music app. On the TV app you need to scroll down the page to find a carousel called ‘Apple Music TV’. Apple Music users will find the channel flagged up in the Browse section.
When you click the link you’ll watch and endless roll of music and related footage.
