Apple, Powell Jobs, DiCaprio raise money for U.S. food fund
Apple, Laurene Powell Jobs and Leonard DiCaprio have got together to launch America’s Food Fund, aiming to raise $15 million to help feed Americans whose lives are being shattered by the coronavirus.

$15 million? It’s a start
America’s Food Fund, which is also supported by the Ford Foundation, aims to raise $15 million and has already raised $12.3 million at time of writing.
“In neighborhoods and communities around the country, hunger is an issue that people, including families and children, face every day. Our most vulnerable populations — children who are out of school and rely on school lunch programs, low-income families, the elderly, and individuals facing job disruptions — face great barriers to receiving safe and consistent access to meals.”
The fund will benefit front line organizations battling hunger. The first two beneficiaries will be World Central Kitchen and Feeding America, but the group will partner with additional organizations and businesses that are helping to meet the need.
The money raises is designed to help improve organizational response to the challenges of coronavirus. That means responding to people who are in need, managing food supply chain disruptions and getting meals to people while respecting social distancing guidelines.
What is happening?
“Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 37 million people struggled to know where their next meal might come from on a daily basis, a number that we are seeing rise at an exponential rate.
“We have an opportunity to come together to support our neighbors in this critical time of need.”
World Central Kitchen is led by world-renowned chef and humanitarian, José Andrés, and has been at the forefront of urgently providing meals to people in need in the wake of disasters around the world.
“In times of need, a plate of food is both vital nourishment and a message of hope from the community, that we care and we’re here to make sure that tomorrow, things will be better,” said José Andrés. “Now more than ever – for our frontline heroes, our most vulnerable neighbors, and our out-of-work restaurant workers – WCK is prepared to make sure that food is part of the solution.”
This is by no means the only response Apple has made. The company continues to find ways to support the international communities it does business in.
