Apple puts customer trust first with new U1 privacy setting
Apple has listened to its customers concerns around the nature of the always on location analysis within the U1 Ultra WideBand chip inside iPhone 11 and will reportedly deliver new controls to switch this feature off, a report claims.
How it works
At time of writing, the new toggle system seems to work thusly:
- Open Settings.
- Open System Services.
- Select Privacy.
- Tap Location Services.
- You’ll find a toggle around Networking & Wireless.
NB: How this new system works could change before this ships, if, indeed, it does ship.
This was spotted by Twitter user Brandon Buch. It hasn’t been possible to disable the U1 Ultra Wideband chip, which polls location data until now, but this appears to be changing.
Apple warns that toggling the chip off may cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth degradation.
