Apple quietly ramps up services with Netflix integration
Sometimes no sooner than putting the full stop on one story another tale appears that underlines the first. This time the news that Netflix has introduced better integration with Apple’s TV app.
Now on Apple TV+Netflix
Industry watchers will know that Apple and Netflix kind of parted company over the cost of Apple’s distribution fees when it came to subscriptions to the competing streaming service. One way to spot the division between the firms was that Netflix content no longer appeared in the Apple TV app.
This now seems to be improving. A report claims US Netflix users are receiving a prompt to connect Netflix to the Apple TV app.
Once they do, Netflix content appears beside the other titles made available on the Apple TV splash screen, in the Watchlist and Continue Watching sections. While reports state that the content spotlight features don’t appear to be universal, they do say Netflix content will appear in search.
This seems to be a US-only feature now, but perhaps it will change. It also seems limited to the most recent (2015 and later) Apple TV boxes.
It is also interesting that Amazon improved its own Prime support for Apple TV this week.
Sign of the times?
How does this relate to the earlier story? To the degree that Apple continued working to ensure its app can become a portal to the widest possible tranche of content. I say, watch this space.
