Apple raises App Store prices in Europe, APAC & elsewhere
Apple is increasing the cost of software sold at its App Store across the Euro-zone and in a large number of nations in the APAC and South America.
Prices set to increase
It warns the new prices will begin to be implemented as early as October 5, 2022. The company has distributed a sheet to developers to show them what their new price tariffs will become. €0.99 apps will now cost €1.19, these changes reveal.
It also told developers: “You can change the price of your apps and in-app purchases (including auto-renewable subscriptions) at any time in App Store Connect. If you offer subscriptions, you can choose to preserve prices for existing subscribers.”
Apple hasn’t said why it is implementing the price increase, but it almost certainly reflects the strengthening dollar. The Euro is now worth a dollar, which has never happened before.
Prices of apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) on the App Store will increase in Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Vietnam, and all territories that use the Euro currency. The latter includes France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and elsewhere.
Prices are also set to increase in Vietnam following new regulations for Apple to collect and remit both value added tax (VAT) and corporate income tax (CIT) at 5% rates respectively.
