Apple raises iPhone, iPad, Mac battery replace price by c20%
Cupertino has chosen to celebrate new year by warning iPhone, iPad, and Mac users that they will need to pay even more money for battery replacement starting in March.
This is a real Apple tax
The deal is that these already expensive replacement operations will see costs increase by around 20% from March, the company said.
The news was announced via Apple support. These pages reveal the following price bands:
- iPhone battery replacement will increase from $69 to $89 from March 1.
- It will cost you $119 to upgrade the battery in a 5th generation iPad Air, up from $99 at the moment.
- Effective March 1, 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service fee will be increased by $ 30 for all MacBook Air models and by $ 50 for all MacBook and MacBook Pro models. (Apple).
What’s unfortunate about this is that while Apple has made it easier for independents to upgrade batteries for iPhones, it has also sometimes caused devices into which new non-Apple batteries have been fitted to stop working.
Make the best of what you’ve got
You can get more from the battery you own, of course, as explained here. Apple has introduced ‘Battery Health Management’ tools on Macs, iPads and iPhones.
The EU is currently considering making battery replacement mandatory.
