Apple reaches first look deal with Martin Scorsese
In case there was any lingering doubt concerning the magnitude of Apple’s streaming video ambitions, the company today reached a deal with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions.
Big stars, big pictures
It’s a multi-year deal for film and television projects the acclaimed director will produce and direct for Apple TV+. This begins with Killers of the Flower Moon, which will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro
This the latest in a string of recently revealed deals that taken together show Apple is making a deep effort to secure the services of some of the world’s most iconic talent to help create future shows.
Apple has secured first look deals with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson’s Appian Way, Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures, Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions, A24 and Imagine Documentaries and its ongoing relationships with Sesame Workshop and Peanuts.
It has also made a straight-to-series order for a drama from Adam Perlman and Team Downey (Robert and Susan Downey’s production company).
The big picture for Apple’s big picture ambition seems pretty clear – it’s going to offer up a raft of unique and compelling content to keep those TV+ subscribers happy as it engages in its multi-year plan.
