Apple recruits new developer teams in Czech Republic
Apple is expanding its Mac and iOS development teams at its center in the Czech Republic, recruiting engineers to work on Core OS, local reports claim.
Apple recruits new developer teams in Czech Republic
The company is recruiting an OS kernel development manager, engineers, and programmers to help build its OS.
The company has held a development center in the Czech Republic for years, though little is known about the kind of work that takes place there. Local reports say Apple’s Prague-based developers have contributed to Apple’s biometric authentication technologies, including Touch ID, and other elements of the company’s operating systems.
The new team the company is putting together will work closely with Apple’s Silicon development teams and other chipmakers as required, no doubt working to ensure the OS software fully exploits the opportunity of the hardware.
“The Core OS team is responsible for developing a new core of operating systems and system functions for all products. It is also responsible for developing our software for ARM and Intel chips. Core OS contributes to the success of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac product lines,” Apple told Aktualne.cz.
Reaching developers where they are
It’s nothing other than good business practise driving Apple’s need to create R&D/development hubs at locations across the planet.
As digital processes enter every part of daily life, demand for qualified software developers is booming. This has created a huge global shortfall in which more and more businesses are forced to compete for talent. Developers are hard to train, find and keep, and the fees they charge are climbing in response to demand.
One way for Apple to maintain its business within the highly competitive environment for developer talent is to open hubs where developers already are. It’s hubs in Bangalore,Milan, London and elsewhere are all perfect examples of this. So too, it seems, is its latest hub in the Czech Republic.
It’s not a huge surprise the company spreads some of its key operations across Europe. Much of NeXT code was contributed I think by developers in France, and the company also owns what used to be Intel’s modem development center in Germany. One big advantage of spreading a business across multiple nations is secrecy, after all. That’s a commodity Apple would like to possess more of, we think.
Still, news that Apple is recruiting in Czech Republic may yet be music to the ears of the many now involved in a tech industry diaspora following horrific war crimes currently unfolding in Ukraine.
