open source page design
Apple has updated the pages on its website dedicated to its work in Open Source projects including Swift WebKit, FoundationDB, ResearchKit, CareKit and Password Manager, along with other elements of open source code used in its operating systems
Apple improves its open source pages
As first noted by Mac4Ever, Apple has improved the overall look and feel of these pages on its site. Each project has its own Apple-published details page along with links to the specific project website.
The Password Manager Resources listing, for example, describes itself as a, “place for creators and users of password managers to collaborate on resources to make password management better.”
The listings page takes you to a more extensive description with links to GitHub, project announcements and an Issue tracker.
Apple made its work on password managers available on an open-source basis in June 2020. At that time, the company said:
“Apple has created a new open source project to help developers of password managers collaborate to create strong passwords that are compatible with popular websites. The Password Manager Resources open source project allows you to integrate website-specific requirements used by the iCloud Keychain password manager to generate strong, unique passwords. The project also contains collections of websites known to share a sign-in system, links to websites’ pages where users change passwords, and more.”
What projects are listed?
The following projects are listed on the page:
- Swift
- WebKit
- FoundationDB
- ResearchKit
- CareKit
- Password Manager Resources
- Kubernetes
- Cassandra
- LLVM/Clang
- Spark
- Netty
- Solr
Apple’s pages also link you up with access to the source code for operating systems and developer tools up to iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur.
The page states:
“Open source software is at the heart of Apple platforms and developer tools. Apple works with developers around the world to create, contribute, and release open source code.”
