Apple sets March stage for three new Macs & more
Apple has been expected to introduce new Macs alongside new iPhones and iPads this spring. Now a fresh regulator filing suggests these new machines are on the way.
What has happened?
Consomac reports Apple to have registered three new Macs in the Eurasian Economic Database. The following model numbers have been filed: A2615, A2686 and A2681, with the latter described as a notebook.
Apple filed new iPhone and iPad models with the same regulatory database in mid-January.
What is expected?
We’ve been expecting Apple to introduce new Macs this spring. These are thought to include a new entry-level MacBook Pro and a new Mac mini, possibly accompanied by an iMac with a larger screen and MacBook Air.
There has been additional recent speculation Apple intends offering up Macs equipped with a new M2 Mac processor. It may be worth noting that M1-powered Macs have previously been registered with numbers that begin A24, which means the new A26 systems may indeed match the rumor.
Apple is also thought to be on the cusp of introducing a new iPhone SE with an A14 processor 5G and an improved iPad Air with a powerful A15 chip and 5G.
There is no expectation of an Apple Silicon Mac Pro currently. Apple is thought to have already begun testing the new iPhone SE.
When will there be an event?
We don’t yet know if Apple will announce an event to introduce new products this spring, but everyone is expecting one. Bloomberg recently predicted an Apple event may take place March 8, but earlier speculation has suggested a later launch. In part this is because systems filed with the Eurasian database usually hit market around ten weeks later, which would predicate an event later in March. Despite which, the bottom line is that the company now seems likely to announce an event very soon. It is also possible, given the later addition of the Macs to the database, that Apple intends two launch points.
What to remember
It now seems Apple will introduce the following products at an event or events beginning in March:
- iPhone SE 2022 with 5G and faster chip.
- Fast A15/5G iPad Air
- Potential new iPad model.
- Three new Macs, possibly including a Mac mini Pro.
