Apple to film Asimov’s ‘Foundation’ series in Ireland
Apple will film its TV adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic ‘Foundation’ novels in what is expected to be Ireland’s largest-scale production ever, Deadline reports.
A big step for Ireland, a huge step for Asimov fans
Production of the ten-episode series will begin in 2020.
The project will create over 500 production jobs when it shoots at Troy Studios in Limerick. David S. Goyer (“The Dark Knight,” “Terminator: Dark Fate“) serves as showrunner and executive producer for the series.
There’s huge anticipation for this, given the cult status enjoyed by Asimov’s books, which you should read and can read right now by getting hold of them here (*affiliate link*).
Who is in the cast?
The cast for the Apple TV+ series includes Jared Harris (“Chernobyl”), Lee Pace (“Halt and Catch Fire”), Lou Llobell (“Voyagers“), Leah Harvey (“Fighting with My Family,” “Les Misérables”), Laura Birn (“Helene,” “The Innocents”), Terrence Mann (“Sense8“), Cassian Bilton (“A Devil’s Harmony”).
Skydance Television is producing the series with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross serving as executive producers.
Josh Friedman (“Avatar 4,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) and Robyn Asimov also serve as executive producers for the series. Wild Atlantic Pictures is the Irish production company, Screen Ireland informs.
Ireland on a creative roll
The project has achieved backing from Screen Ireland (which is also supporting filming of the highly-recommended Vikings:Valhalla spin-off 24-episode series).
Chief Executive of Fís Éireann/ Screen Ireland, Désirée Finnegan said:
“Globally, the screen industry is transforming at an unprecedented rate and with the growth of streaming services in the market there is more demand than ever for quality content.
“This year, we plan to support Irish production companies with a particular focus on the development process and we’re pleased to announce that we will be investing in a fund to support slate development across feature film, animation and TV drama.”
