Apple TV+ now on Amazon Prime in UK, Canada, Australia
Apple continues to build reach for its TV+ service, which is now available as a subscription-based additional channel within Amazon Prime Video in the UK, Canada, and Australia. The company made the service available via Prime Video in the US last October.
Apple TV+ reaches out
The move means TV+ is now available alongside other channels, including Paramount+, Crunchyroll and Crime & Investigation Play. It also means those using Prime Video can get to the award-winning content Apple’s service provides from within the same application/user experience they use for the rest of their TV programming.
Prime Video offers a diverse selection of premium content, including MGM Studios Originals, live Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches, an extensive selection of licensed films and shows, a big catalogue of titles to rent or buy, and 65 additional streaming subscriptions (now including TV+).
Good TV for the rest of us
Apple didn’t announce the move itself, instead, Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Services instead contributed a boiler plate quote to Amazon for inclusion in the giant retailer’s own press release.
“Viewers in the U.S. have been loving the ability to subscribe to Apple TV+ on Prime Video and we’re pleased to now launch this offering in Australia, Canada and the U.K.” he said. “We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to as many people as possible.”
Which really means you no longer need an Apple device or an Apple subscription to watch Ted Lasso or Wonder Pets in the City (illustrated).
Amazon also praised the Apple service. “We are delighted to have Apple TV+ and it’s stellar lineup of UK content join our entertainment catalogue catering to the unique tastes of our UK audience,” said Chris Bird, Managing Director of Prime Video UK.
To date, Apple Original films, documentaries and series have earned 524 wins and 2,374 award nominations and counting, including multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso and historic Oscar Best Picture winner CODA.
A subscription costs £8.99/$12.99/month.
Apple has worked pretty hard to make Apple TV+ available across multiple devices and services. From being a uniquely Apple-only service, you can now subscribe from smart TVs, streaming boxes and more, with the company recently recruiting for an Android engineer, perhaps to bring the service across to those devices, too.
