Apple Watch users gain DNA-based health recommendation app
Health, sleep, and activity tracking service InsideTracker has announced Apple Watch support for the first time. It means data captured by the smartwatch can be ingested into the system – and if the system’s as good as the company claims, I’m in little doubt you’ll start being requested to use it by your health insurer.
What is InsideTracker?
The InsideTracker system lets users combine blood biometric testing, DNA insights and fitness tracker data to build a science-based nutrition and lifestyle action plan.
The company was founded in 2009 by a group of scientists from related disciplines. By analyzing the body’s data from blood, DNA and fitness trackers, the service aims to provide an accurate analysis of your current health, along with a science-backed action plan to improve it.
The solution has built up a following among pro and recreational endurance and strength athletes, the company said. It’s available for Apple Watch for the first time and costs from $119.
What InsideTracker said
“InsideTracker is the only system that integrates this level of activity tracking with blood, DNA and lifestyle data, and we’re excited to unlock these precision wellness and longevity benefits for 100 million Apple Watch users,” said Dr. Gil Blander, co-founder and chief scientific officer, InsideTracker.
What does Apple Watch integration mean?
What this means is that Apple Watch users can now make use of data captured by the smartwatch, including activity, fitness, and sleep information. It can then provide real-time analysis and recommendation.
The company explains the link between exercise, RHR and sleep, all of which directly affect biomarker levels.
“With InsideTracker’s Apple Watch integration, users can track and analyze blood, fitness and sleep data all in one place, giving a clearer picture of how physiological and biomarker data is interconnected, unlocking new ways to improve health.”
Each time Apple Watch registers a new, completed activity, InsideTracker progress updates in real-time, fine-tuning the personalized Action Plan. Users also gain ProTips, science backed advice personalized to your individual needs. These tips help improve your health.
How it works
The integration works via the updated InsideTracker app.
Apple Watch users without an existing account must create one and must also provide a blood sample at a local Quest lab, via home kit or from a recent physician-ordered test, then download the app to receive their blood test results, sync with their device and create a personalized action plan.
