Apple’s Tap to Pay service is now available in Brazil
Rumors Brazilian people would be able to make use of Apple’s Tap to Pay system turned out to be completely true. Today, InfinitePay, a payment platform owned by the Brazilian fintech CloudWalk, has become the first provider to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone.
On the CloudWalk
CloudWalk has seen tremendous growth across Brazil – on track to his $300 million ARR this year – and is eyeing an entrance into the U.S. in 2024. Brazil is the sixth nation to gain access to Apple’s tech, which lets merchants use their iPhones to take all forms of contactless payments from customers. That matters, because a survey by Datafolha Institute on behalf of Abecs showed that 54% of Brazilian consumers usually make payments using contactless methods such as their card, mobile phone, watch, or other device, and adoption is growing fast.
What Apple said
“Tap to Pay on iPhone has helped businesses around the world and of all sizes — from freelancers to large retailers – offer new payment experiences, and we’re excited to bring an easy, secure and private payment solution to Brazilian merchants,” said Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet at Apple.
“Brazil is a nation of great entrepreneurship, and now companies will have the possibility of accepting contactless payments in all locations of operation.”
Tap to Pay on iPhone contactless payment acceptance technology uses the built-in features of iPhone to keep the businesses and customers’ data private and secure. When a payment is processed, Apple doesn’t store card numbers on the device or on Apple servers.
What they said
“With Tap to Pay on iPhone, merchants can quickly start accepting contactless payments using only their iPhone, unlocking a great opportunity for people to create businesses of all sizes,” said Luis Silva, founder and CEO of CloudWalk.
“We are excited to enable this technology in Brazil for our InfinitePay users. Our goal is to democratize access to the world’s most innovative payment services and provide merchants the ability to accept payments quickly, and the integration of Tap to Pay on iPhone is a significant step in that direction.”
Apple appears to be accelerating its roll out of Tap to Pay, which hit the UK in July and Taiwan in April. Will we see additional markets turned on in the run to holiday shopping season?
