Apple’s Tim Cook commits to build bigger business in India
Apple CEO Tim Cook met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi Wednesday, and committed to even further deepening of the company’s business there.
Investing even more in India
In a Tweet sent subsequent to the meeting, Cook said the company is committed to growing and investing in business in India.
“Thank you, Prime Minister, @narendramodi for the warm welcome. We share your vision of the positive impact technology can make on India’s future — from education and developers to manufacturing and the environment, we’re committed to growing and investing across the country,” he wrote.
Cook was also asking for additional support to widen its supplier base in India.
The PM on his part said “An absolute delight to meet you, @tim_cook! Glad to exchange views on diverse topics and highlight the tech-powered transformations taking place in India.”

Bringing the component makers on board
Cook also urged the government to support further expansion across Apple’s component ecosystem and supply chain, the need to improve labor skills and more.
The government, as expected, pressed Apple to widen its work in iPhone manufacturing and investment.
Communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Tweeted that the meeting also looked at job creation, particularly for women. Around 72 percent of Apple’s workers in India are women.

Minister of state for IT and electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar revealed, “We discussed deepening and broadening manufacturing, exports, skilling of youth, expanding app innovation economy and job creation.”
Apple and its supply chain have already exceeded the terms of the arrangements under India’s incentive scheme.
Cook last visited India in 2016. It’s fair to say he’s done a great deal of work enhancing Apple’s place in the nation ever since.
