Apple’s Tim Cook to open Mumbai, New Delhi retail stores?
Back to India on the Apple news merry-go-round and today’s information is that no less than Apple CEO Tim Cook will take a trip to the fast rising nation to open up the first ever Apple retail stores there in Mumbai on April 18 and New Delhi April 20.
Tim Cook takes a trip to India
While in India, Apple’s leader hopes to meet with India Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The government has worked hard to tempt tech industry manufacturers to set up shop in the country, including paying billions of dollars in incentives to do so.
Cook last visited India seven years ago when he promised Apple was investing heavily in building its presence there “for a thousand years”.
What Cook saw coming
“The truth is there’s going to be a lot of people there and a lot of people in the middle class that will really want a smartphone, and I think we can compete well for some percentage of those. And given our starting point, even though we’ve been growing a lot, there’s a lot of headroom there in our mind. So, we’re working very hard to realize that opportunity,” he explained.
A lot of things have changed since then.
As time goes by
Apple now has a retail store online and on the street, has expanded its own business operations in India and multiple manufacturing partners, including Foxconn, Pegatron and others have set up factories there. This week, India-based conglomerate, Tata Group, became the first big local firm to enter the iPhone supply chain.
