Corel buys Awingu to secure remote workspace
In what could turn out to be yet another interesting move in the vibrant Apple/remote working space, Corel has acquired Awingu to help put together a secure, remote, multi-platform workspace offer that will be rolled into Parallels.
Awingu into Windows
Awingu will continue to provide secure remote workspaces for customers in healthcare, finance, manufacturing, government, and telco verticals. It will also expand its integration with Parallels as it works to provide secure remote access to both legacy and cloud-native applications.
Awingu’s secure remote access technology will be added to Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS). It should mean companies using Parallels will be able to offer secure remote access across multiple platforms for users on multiple platforms. Parallels is an all-in-one application delivery and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution that provides remote access to virtual applications and desktops.
What Corel says
“The future of work is now; we are living it,” said Prashant Ketkar, Chief Technology and Product Officer, Corel. “The pandemic further accelerated the need for organizations to determine and shift their remote and hybrid work infrastructures. Now, organizations are figuring out how they can cater to the flexibility that employees want with their workplaces while also ensuring secure and efficient access.”
He added, “With the addition of Awingu we’re one step closer to improving the experience for every stakeholder that interacts with our products.”
More about Awingu
Unlike most solutions in the market, Awingu does not require agents on the server or software to be installed on end-user devices. In use, it enables access to legacy Windows applications and desktops from within the Awingu browser-based workspace from any compatible system, including Macs and iPhones.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, Awingu is available in over 20 countries and serves customers including the Port of Antwerp and Peloton.
The significance of the move shouldn’t be underplayed. It suggests, for example, that you’ll be able to use your Mac to securely access cloud-hosted Windows documents, services and applications with Parallels and seamless usability.
