DuckDuckGo launches browser for Macs, available in beta
As promised, privacy focused search engine, DuckDuckGo, has introduced its own desktop browser application for Macs. This is available in beta now and will also eventually be made available for Windows.
Here we go: DuckDuckMac
DuckDuckGo for Mac is an everyday browsing app that seamlessly protects privacy. It offers what you expect from a browser, along with its own built-in privacy essentials and new features (like automatic cookie pop-up management) to set it apart as a fast, private, and secure everyday browser.
The browser is already faster than Chrome, uses less data than chrome and promises “really fast” browsing. Built-in Smarter Encryption ensures you navigate to the encrypted (HTTPS) version of a website, and tracker blocking means less exposure to third-party scripts that could try to access your data.
Features include:
- Private search engine.
- Powerful tracker blocker.
- New cookie pop-up protection on approximately 50% of sites.
- Fire Button (one-click data clearing).
- The privacy feed lets you see who is tryung to track you and lets you clear stored data from websites you recently visited.
Broad privacy protection in an easy package
Beah Burger-Lenehan, Product Director, DuckDuckGo: “Like our mobile app, DuckDuckGo for Mac is an everyday browsing app with privacy as the default through our built-in privacy protections like private search, tracker blocking, HTTPS upgrading, cookie pop-up management, and our Fire Button. People want broad privacy protections but in a convenient, easy-to-use package — so that’s exactly what we built.”

The company passionately believes privacy is something that people should always deserve and that maintaining privacy online shouldn’t rely on degree-level education in individual software application’s settings. That’s why the company has built the application, following a great deal of demand from its users
“For too long people have been made to believe that privacy online means significant tradeoffs, but that doesn’t need to be the case. Like our popular mobile app, DuckDuckGo for Mac is an all-in-one privacy solution for everyday browsing with no complicated settings, just a clean, seamless private experience, plus some other cool features we think people will love,” said Gabriel Weinberg, CEO and Founder, DuckDuckGo.
