How Apple Watch now lets you walk for discount groceries
In what I think may be one of the most interesting and potentially healthiest customer rewards schemes from a major retailer I’ve come across yet, the Albertson’s group of companies have linked up for an innovative new scheme aimed at Apple Watch users.
Albertson’s unique integration
The deal is that customers at Albertson’s stores – which include Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Shaw’s, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Tom Thumb and others – can earn points for closing their Activity rings. The benefits add up, and you can turn those points into discounts on your shopping, coupons, and so on. I’ve not come across a rewards scheme of this nature before.
The scheme takes data from Apple Watch and iPhone to the Albertson’s group’s Sincerely Health digital health and wellness platform. An Apple Watch user can earn up to 75 points each day by closing their Activity rings, while an iPhone user can also sign up to earn 25 points each day by closing their Move ring.
This is an innovative scheme that I think builds very well on the potential for Apple Watch and iPhone to help boost health while also helping to reduce insurance premiums.
What is Sincerely Health?
Launched earlier this year, Sincerely Health is an interesting insight into customer rewards.
“We are introducing Sincerely Health with a singular intention to improve lives,” said Omer Gajial, Chief Digital Officer and EVP Health at Albertsons Cos at the launch. “As a grocery and pharmacy retailer committed to the health and wellness of our communities, we are empowering customers to have a connected and personalized view of their health across food, nutrition, activity, mental well-being and pharmacy services, enabling them to make more informed choices.”
The Sincerely Health experience begins with a brief questionnaire that measures a customer’s Health Score based on seven dimensions of well-being. The scores are calculated using actuarial science, considering varying lifestyle factors such as age, gender, nutrition, lifestyle choices and mental health.

Customers who wear Apple Watch Series 3 or later can now choose to share their activity data with their Sincerely Health account and earn up to 75 points daily for closing all three Activity rings: Move, Exercise and Stand. Additionally, all Sincerely Health users can improve their overall health score and earn points toward grocery coupons and discounts by setting up one or multiple goals related to physical activity, nutrition, lifestyle and sleep. Users can manage their personal data by choosing what information to share.
Sincerely Health is designed to measure a customer’s Health Score based on seven dimensions of well-being: activity, mindfulness, sleep, mental well-being, physical health, nutrition and healthy habits. Therefore, customers can access health-related resources and receive personalized guidance and recommendations for selecting the right foods and establishing goals for mental and general well-being. Sincerely Health also offers an online pharmacy experience where customers can manage pharmacy prescriptions and schedule vaccine appointments.
