How to make printed photo albums from your iPhone
Call this a service announcement if you like, but if you’re looking for a service to print books of your favorite photos from Mac, iPhone or iPad, then Motif is a trusted name to turn to for the task.
Now with an iOS app
Motif has been printing albums for Apple users for more than 15 years, and on October 1 the company published an iOS app which brings its photo book printing services to iPads and iPhones. The service launched as a well-regarded Mac extension in July 2018.
The app is available in 32 countries and six languages. Once given permission to do so it syncs directly with Photos on iOS to make it easy to create books of images.
You can create books in single page or two-page spreads, with a three-step wizard to guide you through the process. It is interesting the app doesn’t as yet let you create and print calendars or photo cards from iOS, though perhaps this will change.
What it does
Motif boasts a huge selection of useful tools, including its own imaging AI tools which it uses to suggest memories from among your images, get rid of duplicates, find the highest-quality images and automatically center and crop images for your chosen layout.
The app has a whole bunch of other useful features as detailed below.
- Motif’s smart technology combs through thousands of photos so you don’t have to, analyzing images for overall quality and similarity to recommend the very best ones and remove duplicates.
- Your images are collated into over 80 professionally designed layouts, picking the best combinations of vertical and horizontal compositions.
- You can type (or dictate) text, and customize the pages with pops of color, patterns and professionally designed themes.
- You can also work on your photo book offline, so you only need an internet connection to purchase your book.
The Motif app is available now on the iOS App Store. Photo books cost from $10 for a soft cover photo book and $20 for a hard cover photo book.
