iPhone 12 Pro Max, 12 mini & HomePod mini pre-order from Friday
Apple has published a note reminding all of us that it will make the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro, 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini and all-new HomePod mini available for pre-order from November 6, with the company’s carrier partners preparing to unleash their own deals on these as they seek to build 5G marketshare.
The products ship November 13
The new products won’t ship until November 13, when they will arrive in 50 countries and regions, but they will be available to pre-order in the Apple Store app, online, through resellers and selected carriers.
“iPhone 12 Pro Max features the most advanced pro camera system and the largest display ever on an iPhone, while iPhone 12 mini is the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone in the world with an edge-to-edge display, packing the advanced technology of iPhone 12 into a delightfully compact size,” the company helpfully reminds us in its note.
Don’t forget the tidal wave of interest that rang as the company introduced iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
That Pro Max camera…
The iPhone 12 Pro Max boasts an Ultra Wide camera with a 120-degree field of view and a 65 mm focal length Telephoto camera that increases the total optical zoom range from 4x to 5x.
The new Wide camera introduces sensor-shift OIS, which provides enhanced image stabilization, with a faster ƒ/1.6 aperture, 47 percent larger sensor, and bigger 1.7μm pixels, enables an 87 percent increase in low-light performance for photos and videos, “the biggest gain ever for iPhone,” the company said.
How will this skew?
What’s interesting is recent reports which seemingly suggest:
- The high-end iPhone 12 Pro seems to be the best-selling model so far, in part on strength of its camera: Will the Pro Max generate an even higher-end sales rush?
- The iPhone SE 2020 and XR have both seen sales slow – to what extent might this suggest pent-up demand for the incoming iPhone 12 mini?
- High demand across all Apple markets.
I imagine we’ll find out more in response to this and other questions tomorrow when we watch the pre-orders. I have this hunch the 12 mini may sell out relatively quickly, given the demand we know exists for smaller iPhones.
