iPhone 13 will boost Apple’s hold on 5G market – analyst
As we wait on the news, yet more positive prediction around iPhone 13 with Counterpoint claiming that one in three smartphones sold worldwide this year will come from Apple.
The hype machine may be overheating
Counterpoint says that strong iPhone 12 sales will be followed by strong iPhone 13 sales and will push Q4 21 5G shipments to 200 million units, with Apple taking 33% of those.
Last year, Apple’s iPhone 12 accounted for 24% of all 5G smartphone shipments globally, despite a late launch in October. This year, with an earlier launch for the iPhone 13 and continued strong appetite for iOS, Counterpoint sees Apple taking 33% of all global 5G shipments.
Arguing that Apple’s US iPhone audience are “ready for new devices,” Jeff Fieldhack, Research Director for North America, said:
“T-Mobile has a 5G lead with its mid-band (2.5GHz) rollout and it will be aggressive in order to gain as many iOS subscribers as possible before Verizon and AT&T’s mid-band (3.5GHz) rollouts.
“The latter remains very aggressive upgrading both the base and switchers with aggressive promotions, and Verizon will need to keep pace to avoid missing out on premium 5G subscribers. The promotions in Q4 will be at very high levels – helping Apple.”
Taking the fight to Android?
He predicts that boosts from economic recovery, COVID easing and Apple’s continued push into services and privacy may help build iPhone sales, saying:
“Combine all of the above with a nice pricing surprise like we saw last year, and it’s possible Apple could hit a significant milestone in terms of US installed base, where Android has been bleeding share to iOS, which now sits at around 44%. A strong holiday season, some economic recovery, further COVID easing and continued privacy and services push from Cupertino could certainly be enough to nudge the balance in Apple’s favor.”
The iPhone 13 is expected to cost around the same as the iPhone 12, with a faster processor, much better display, better battery life and faster 5G radio. Available in Black, Pink, Purple, Orange, Product Red, White, Blue, Gold/Silver you can keep up with all the latest iPhone speculation here.
Around 44% of Apple’s existing iPhone users will upgrade to iPhone 13, survey claims. And millions of Android users will also upgrade, a recent report claimed. Recent data from SellCell claimed 43.7% of iPhone users plan to switch to iPhone 13, up 2.7% compared to iPhone 12 purchase intent revealed in a similar survey last year.
