MacStadium brings Orka Pulse for faster Mac DaaS provisioning
MacStadium has announced Orka Pulse, a new system for virtual macOS desktop delivery. The system enables high-definition audio and visual streaming on Orka Workspace virtual Mac desktops through any HTML5 supported browser.
A much faster way to access Mac as a service
This marks the first application of WebRTC on macOS VDI. With the latest development in DaaS technology, it provides an all-encompassing solution for virtual desktop capabilities.
It is notable that the company’s developers optimized key elements of WebRTC to create this solution and published some of its components as open source code to enable future development of WebRTC solutions for macOS.
What MacStadium said
Chris Chapman, MacStadium senior vice president and CTO said: “Pulse provides a foundation for the transmission of real-time audio and video necessary for macOS virtual desktops to work as they should.”
He explained: “But using WebRTC for macOS presented unique challenges that required our team to redesign some of the components with integration to macOS APIs to deliver that uniquely Mac video experience users know and love.”
“We even published some of our work on the updated Swift RTP as open-source code to enable more macOS, WebRTC tools and development.”
What is Orka Pulse?
In 2021, Gartner predicted that demand for desktops as a service would increase by 150 percent from 2020 to 2023.
The system leverages a reimagined transmission protocol to create the kind of low-latency, high-performance macOS workspaces required by developers worldwide. It also makes use of WebRTC, which is backed by Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla and is used by many leading B2B web applications.
Orka Pulse enables faster releases by providing remote developers with access to more powerful Mac virtual workspaces, allowing them to work at a faster pace with more flexible resources.
Users can interact with a remote Mac device. They get the ability to stream 1,080p video without local installs or plugins as Orka Pulse requires only a browser. Additionally, the solution provides end-to-end encrypted sessions managed by IT that can be terminated on-demand if required.
The growing Apple ecosystem
The introduction of Pulse coincides with the company’s attendance at MacAD.UK in Brighton, U.K. from May 22 – 24.
MacStadium is a very serious player in the ever evolving Apple in the enterprise space. Orka Workspace and tools for Devops supplement its core business offering Mac-based servers and virtual Mac desktops.
