Now even WhatsApp is moving to Apple Silicon
WhatsApp is public testing an Apple Silicon native version of its messaging application and a beta version is now available for any brave souls who want to try in development software out.
WhatsApp gains Apple Silicon
If that’s you the app is available for download here. It was previously only made available as a limited distribution to key testers via TestFlight, but reach has been expanded now.
Mac users working with Apple Silicon Macs have until now been able to run their WhatsApp using the Intel version of the app and Apple’s Rosetta 2 emulation engine.
The native version will be faster, more reliable and – most of all – represents yet another significant moment in the evolution of Apple’s processors.
A testament to success
You see, WhatsApp knows how many of its users are already on Macs, and will understand that there is a demand there for this kind of support.
It’s also a testament to Apple’s achievement with Apple Silicon, which I think now has or almost has native versions of almost every key application available to it. This marks a successful transition.
WhatsApp will also recognize that as Apple’s enterprise and Mac marketshare continues to grow and as more and more PC users join the Mac throng, it needs to meet those audiences where they are.
Not only this, but most Apple users also display high activity levels in terms of using their devices, which makes a move to embrace the still new Apple processor family mandatory for most major developers.
The messaging app is by far the world’s most popular massaging app with perhaps 91 percent market share, so it matters.
