Sick of White AirPods? It’ll Cost you $99 to Get Them Painted Black
I’m so sick of white earbuds. I get why Apple insists on them, but I’ve always argued that wearing them turns you into a potential victim as you are clearly using an Apple product. I’ve always wondered why the company doesn’t do them in black. It’s an aesthetic decision, I suppose. An experiment in branding, I guess. But i just feel a bit of a t** when I wear them.
Paint it black
Apple continues this trend to white with AirPods. These amazing contraptions are an essential component in company plans to weave a world in wearables, but they are white. I see them sometimes. And I still wish they were not white.
Enter Blackpod, a bespoke service that will either sell you hand-painted black AirPods, or (for a fee) paint yours for $99. They sell high-gloss painted AirPods for $279, or the low-gloss black-painted ‘AirPod Stealth’ for $299.
Of course, none of this is covered by Apple warranty, so don’t expect the company to fix your pods if they break down after they are painted. However, if you love everything about AirPods bar the colour, you do now at least have a choice.
