The nation of Romania wants a bigger bite of the Apple
Managers from Apple held high-level meetings with government officials in Romania this week, with the local leaders working hard to convince the company to expand its presence there.
A potential South-East European hub
To put a little context around this, the nation is situated beside the Black Sea next door to the Ukraine and small independent republic, Moldova.
This makes it a good hub for business in that part of Europe, particularly as the nation is likely in need of economic support as it handles problems created by the invasion of its neighbour.
Added to which, Romania is beautiful with a highly educated and literate workforce. Apple has had a presence in the country since 2019 and is apparently now looking to expand there.
The company delegation met with Romanian government officials, including MP Sabin Sărmaș, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, Sebastian Burduja, and Dan Campean, director of the National Directorate of Cyber Security.

What the locals want
The Romanian officials tried to raise several arguments to help persuade the company to raise its investments in the nation.
Everyone agreed the country has the potential to become an important European presence for the company.
“This is why we need to work together on educational programs that cover the whole spectrum of digital skills and create more opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises,” the MP wrote.
“We count, in the future, on Apple to increase the level of digital expertise in Romania. Perhaps this is how we can hope that our country will inaugurate, in time, an R&D Center, such as the ones in Great Britain, Germany, Israel and France.
“Romania has become more and more active and relevant in the field of digital and cyber security, in particular,” MP Sabin Sărmaș wrote on his Facebook page.
