Apple will begin broadcasting its Carpool Karaoke: The Series on August 8, the company has confirmed with a new video clip showing some of the ‘slebs’ who will appear in the show — including both Game of Thrones Stark sisters (Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams).
The video also features spots from Ariana Grande, Will Smith, Miley Cyrus, John Legend, Shaq, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Cena, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Taraji P Henson, and LeBron James and James Corden.
“Go on a star-studded, song-filled car ride in Carpool Karaoke: The Series from Apple Music. Each episode will feature celebrity pairings—from Alicia Keys and John Legend to Billy Eichner and Metallica—sharing a car, singing along to their personal playlists, and embarking on adventures,” the video description reads.
Carpool Karaoke: The Series for Apple Music will welcome a different group of superstars every Tuesday, with new episodes available exclusively to Apple Music subscribers in more than 100 countries.
This is the second of Apple’s new range of original content TV shows (though there are several more if you include the music-focused documentaries it has made for Apple Music).
Apple is making a big investment in original programming. The company is investing deeply in content, it is recruiting people to license and make new content. It is reaching distribution deals for more and better content.
“We have exciting plans in store for customers and can’t wait for them to bring their expertise to Apple — there is much more to come,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.
With the move to 4K in mind, it is interesting that Apple recently slipped a few hints of forthcoming 4K content within iTunes. Clearly the stage is being set for the next generation of Apple TV.
