VIDEO: Watch Apple’s Siri chief talk about the future of AI
I wrote more on this in April, but Siri co-creator, Apple’s Tom Gruber’s complete TED Conference talk on how building ‘humanistic AI’ can turbo-charge human performance is available here.
The smarter the AI gets the smarter we get
“We designed Siri to augment people with a conversational interface so they can use mobile computing, regardless of their abilities,” he said.
Gruber believes the purpose of AI is to empower humans with machine intelligence.
“He shares his vision for a future where AI helps us achieve superhuman performance in perception, creativity and cognitive function — from turbocharging our design skills to helping us remember everything we’ve ever read,” he writes on his site.
He also talked about how AI will make personal memory enhancement a reality. “Memories decay over time,” he says.
“What if you could have a memory that was as good as computer memory and was about everybody you ever met?”
The AI could look at all your relationships over time, read everything you’ve read, and listen to every song you ever heard, and analyse these things to figure out useful and actionable observations.
Here’s the complete transcript of what he said.
