When and how to reset network settings on iPhone
If you find it hard to connect to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, or experience slow or unstable connections when you do, then resetting your network settings may fix the problem.
What sort of problems does it solve?
- If you know you have a robust Wi-Fi network, but it keeps kicking your iPhone out.
- If Bluetooth devices suddenly become unavailable.
- If cellular connections drop mid-call.
- Or if you experience slow connections when you’re using any of these…
Then you may need to reset your iPhone’s network settings. The process doesn’t take long at all, but you will need to spend time reapplying your Wi-Fi and other network passwords, so make sure you have any relevant passcodes to hand.
Hold on, what?
The snag when resetting network settings is that doing so also deletes any network data held on your device, including Wi-Fi passcodes, saved Bluetooth connections, VPN information and network preferences, so do get ready to reapply those before you reset.
So try this first
Assuming you’ve already rebooted your modem and router and nothing has changed, you can also try turning AirPort Mode on and off again to give your network connection a kick. When you turn AirPort Mode off your iPhone will re-join your Wi-Fi network, for example, which may sometimes jog it into better action. There are several other quick fixes you can try right here.
However, if all else fails then you should reset your network settings. Just make sure you note down any account details you are likely to need first.
