Would You Buy A New MacBook That Looked Like This?
Almost 100 readers liked the last Apple product concept I ran at Apple Must, and this one, for an even more touchable MacBook Pro may also be quite popular.
This one comes from Yanko Design.
I like it because it replaces the entire Mac keyboard with a touch sensitive display – kind of like the wonderful Touch Bar but all the way across the lower part of the device. It also uses a taptic feedback to make keys feel like keys, sliders feel like sliders and more.
I think that’s got quite a lot of legs as an idea – not only does it mean that every app would be able to offer its own user interface tools in convenient and easy to find parts of the virtual keyboard, but you’d also be able to do cool things like draw on your Photos using Apple Pencil and the Mac.
One of the reasons I like this is that you continue to use your Mac just like you have always done, but with your eyes facing forward while your fingers face down – which is the logical way to use a computer, if you think about it.
I’m interested if this is something you’d like to see in future Macs? I’m also curious if anyone yet has built an app that lets you use an iPad as a Mac keyboard/mouse, as that seems a natural evolution somehow. Or am I just scratching the surface?
So — a poll: Would you buy a MacBook that looked (and worked) like this?
