Zoom brings Center Stage, 48 in view to M1 iPad Pro
Zoom has been improved with support for Apple’s Center Stage and an expanded Gallery View that lets 12.9” iPad Pro users see up to 48 video tiles on their display.
How to stay the center of attention
Introduced with the 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pros at Apple’s Spring Loaded event, Center Stage uses on device AI to keep the speaker at the center of the frame if they move about during a Zoom call. It’s great for presenters and those who suffer from chronic fidgeting, and means people you speak with should have a better experience while chatting with you. The feature even recognizes when others join or exit the frame, automatically adjusting to fit everyone in.
Apple says that Center Stage image recognition is done on-device, and no image data is sent to the cloud. This support is available on Zoom 5.6.6 or later on the 11-inch (third generation) and the 12.9-inch (fifth generation) 2021 iPad Pro.
Greater galleries and more
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro gains another special feature – an expanded Gallery view. While previous generation models will display up to 25 video tiles in Gallery View, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro will show up to 48, which is much better for larger meetings.
The video chat service also makes use of AI to automatically surface important parts of cloud-recorded meetings. Meeting hosts have the option to adjust these highlights and create a completely new clip, and users viewing the meeting recording can choose to watch just the highlighted sections or the entire meeting.
Zoom has also launched a new Developer Support site, which contains Help Center articles, Zoom Developer Platform resources, Premier Developer Support case routing & management, and more.
Account owners and admins can also enable an account or group level setting requiring users to have a Virtual Background when their video is on.
